Back pain is caused when one of the muscles on the spine is torn, twisted or pulled. Players who are in certain sports that include jumping such as volleyball and basketball are especially at the risk of this type of injury. Being overweight and out of shape also enhances the risk of pain.
Symptoms of Back Pain
To help proceed with the treatment or to prevent it, one will need to know the symptoms first. Symptoms of backache include pain, muscle spasms, muscle weakness and swelling.
Remedies and Treatment
There are various home remedies for back strain. First, you should try to reduce the swelling that might have occurred, the muscle spasms and the pain. This can be done by taking sufficient rest, reducing your regular exercises and activities, putting an ice cube on the injured part for at least 20 minutes at a time for 3 to 4 times a day. Medicines such as anti-inflammatory drug like aspirin or naproxen can also be used to ease the pain. Instead of taking rest for long periods, you should try to resume your normal activities as soon as possible.
After the first few days, it is advisable to apply heat to the injured area because heat dilates the blood and its flow to the area. This will promote the healing of the area as the blood puts in nutrients and carries away the tissues that have been damaged.
