Curd is the most preferred product in most of the families. It is a dairy product which is made by fermentation. It is highly nutritional and adds taste to the food we eat. Making curd, a part of our daily diet has immense benefits. It contains carbohydrates, fats, proteins, sodium, potassium, calcium magnesium, vitamins A, B-12 and D and many more calories.

Ayurveda has explained many benefits of curd, but if consumed in the day time only. If consumed at night, it leads to mucus formation. Some are of the opinion that consuming curd along with salt at night helps in overcoming digestion problems while some say it aggravates constipation. Hence there are mixed opinions and views.

Should you add salt to curd?
Now the question that bothers most of us is whether it is harmful to eat curd by adding salt to it. It is said that lactobacillus in curd gets affected with salt. As per sources it is believed that salt kills the beneficial bacteria present in the curd which removes the probiotic health benefits of the curd. But it totally depends on the quantity of salt you mix in the curd. A pinch of salt would add to the taste without making it hypertonic. In lesser amount, salt increases the food taste and provides many health benefits.

People with high blood pressure must avoid excessive salt in curd. Also, patients with heart diseases must avoid salt since it increases the chances of strokes and hypertension. Other than these, there seems to be no such disadvantage in adding salt to curd when in limited quantities.
